"The operation will take place in two weeks' time and then I'll start looking seriously for an apartment with my girlfriend Viktoria," the 21-year-old from Wetzlar told RTL television's review of the the year "2008 – People, Pictures, Emotions."

Hambüchen had just shown the viewers his Olympic routine, which he'd fluffed slightly in Beijing. He won the bronze medal with this routine, managing all his flight elements OK but touching the mat with his hands on landing.
Although he normally is very careful about his nutrition and weight, he's planning to enjoy Christmas with a "fondue with delicious meat," said Hambüchen. Meanwhile he has learned much from his Olympic appearance. "My expectations were set too high and I went for gold too aggressively," he said. That will not happen to him again.
